John Bailey may yet launch another bid to reclaim the Dublin county board chairman's seat from Gerry Harrington. The Cuala clubman is considering running for the position again, despite the 161-66 vote defeat he suffered when challenging Harrington 12 months ago. Cork native Harrington has confirmed that he will definitely be seeking re-election for a fifth and - under GAA rules - final year as chairman at convention on December 14. Bailey believes many clubs in the capital are disappointed with Harrington over the county's so far fruitless seach for a new sponsor to fill the void left by Arnott's. He also claimed there is also a lot of frustration at the fact that building work has yet to commence on the proposed centre of excellence in Rathcoole. The former All-Ireland hurling referee dismissed suggestions that the economic downturn has made it increasingly difficult to either secure a major sponsor or to raise sufficient finance to commence the Rathcoole project. "I think if John Bailey was chairman, John Bailey would get a sponsor. I don't think there is any doubt about that," he claimed. On the proposed centre of excellence, he declared: "Last year wasn't the year for going ahead with Rathcoole - four years ago we should have laid the foundations." He added: "I have been approached by a number of clubs. I am considering it, and I will give my decision in due course. I am still passionately interested in and committed to Dublin. "I'm a true Blue, and I will do anything I can to help Dublin," added Bailey, who has also been nominated for a Leinster Council delegate position. Tweet
