Seneschalstown's Brian Sheridan winner of the Kick Fada 2009
Meath footballer Brian Sheridan was crowned All-Ireland Kick Fada champion at the Bray Emmets GAA club yesterday.
A member of a famous footballing family in the Royal County, the Seneschalstown clubman was in outstanding form with a spectacular 71-metre kick, ensuring the second longest kick in the history of the ten-year staging of the competition.
Sheridan came out on top of a star-studded field of top class inter-county Gaelic footballers as he edged former Offaly goalkeeper Padraig Kelly into second spot, with Mayo's Fintan Ruddy claiming third place. Both Kelly and Ruddy were former winners of the event.
Meanwhile, the Ladies Football competition saw Suzanne Hughes from Ballyboden St Enda's GAA Club take her first title since 2001 with a huge 48-metre kick, beating Aisling O hAnnaidh from Bray Emmets GAA Club into second place with Geraldine Norton from Wicklow and Emma Dunne from Dublin sharing third.
RTE's Michael O Muireathartaigh oversaw the day and thrilled the largest crowd in the competition's history with his charismatic commentary as they enjoyed the fabulous weather in sunny Wicklow.
