Toomevara retain title
October 11, 2004
Toomevara 4-12
Eire Og / Golden 2-12
Toomevara retained their Tipperary SHC title with a comfortable win over Eire Og / Golden at Thurles on Sunday October 10.
Having won six of the least seven Tipperary championship deciders, Toomevara were expected to brush past the challenge of Eire Og / Golden who were appearing in the final at the first time of asking.
This wasn't the mismatch that many commentators had feared and Eire Og / Golden contributed to a lively encounter, which yielded six goals.
Toomevara came out of the blocks with all guns blazing. Tommy Dunne bagged there first goal. Minutes later paddy O'Brien added a second following a smart passing movement involving Ken Dunne and Frank Devanney. When O'Brien fired over a point after seven minutes a procession looked on the cards.
However, Eire Og / Golden dug deep and managed to claw their way back into the game at 2-5 to 1-8 at the break.
Toomevara replicated their first half opening and struck the front after 10 seconds of the second half when O'Brien finished to the net. Eire / Og stayed in contention until midway through the second half by a goal and two points from Eoin Brislane effectively ended the contest.
Veteran John Quinn bagged his second goal of the afternoon for Eire Og / Golden but it proved too little too late for the west Tipperary combination.
