First championship win for DB

Duleek/Bellewstown's Peter Curran
Duleek/Bellewstown were much the stronger team against Trim as they came out easy winners in the end as they made history as they achieved their first victory as a newly amalgamated club in the championship. Duleek/Bellewstown 0-15 Trim 0-05 Duleek/Bellewstown dominated in all areas of the field, Trim will be disappointed as they only managed two points to their account in the opening half. It was 40 yards man Peter Curran who opened up the scoring for the East Meath men with a fine effort after two minutes of play. The on form Meath Minor Mark Collins was next to step up to the mark as he pointed a free kick. Full forward man McGinley then pointed an excellent effort from a difficult angle on his wrong side. Further points from Podge Howard, Peter Curran, Mark Collins, Chris Carney and an excellent effort from wing half back Gordon Hynes gave the newly amalgamated club something to smile about at half time. Duleek/Bellewstown were lucky not to concede a goal in this half as Trim struck the upright on three different occasions. Even though the football was quite poor at times nothing was going to stop the men in green and gold as they went in at the interval with a comfortable 6 point lead. The half time score was Duleek/Bellewstown 8 points, Trim 2 points. Trim opened up the second half the brightest as they notched over a point within seconds of the restart. Trim's scoring didn't last too long as they only managed two more points in the remainder of this half. They also had a player dismissed midway through the second half which didn't help their situation. Midfielder Tony Cunningham was quick to respond to Trim's early threat as he fired over a massive point from 40 yards to give his team a massive lift. Points from Mark Collins, McGinley, Peter Curran and a second from Tony Cunningham and one from substitute Kieron Collins was plenty to secure Duleek/Bellewstown's first ever championship victory as a new club. Also an outstanding save from ever reliable goal keeper Ricky Nolan midway through the second half kept the men in green and gold safe from any Trim threat. Nolan and Hynes did well in defence while Cunningham and Mc Donnell dominated midfield. Curran, Howard and Collins all did well in attack. Duleek/Bellewstown - Ricky Nolan, D. Crosby, K. Smith, D.
