Wicklow referee Anthony Nolan had to take shelter as he departed the Drogheda field following yesterday's ill-tempered Leinster Club SFC between Newtown Blues and Tullamore.

An object was thrown in Nolan's direction as Tullamore supporters vented their anger at his handling of the game.

The Offaly visitors had Nigel Bracken sent off for a second yellow card offence in the 40th minute and were then reduced to 13 men when top scorer John Moloney was shown a red card two minutes from full-time.

As for the match, Newtown Blues capitalised on wind advantage in the second half to overturn a 0-5 to 1-6 half-time deficit.

Bracken netted the game's only goal in the 26th minute but there was only going to be one winner once Brian Kermode put the home side into the lead in the 57th minute.

The Blues' reward is a home quarter-final clash against Meath champions Summerhill in two weeks.
