Lixnaw capture SHC title
October 17, 2005

Lixnaw collected their first Kerry SHC title since 1999 when they notched a 0-17 to 0-6 win over Abbeydorney in a surprisingly one-sided replay at Austin Stack Park, Tralee.
The new champions benefited from a double-quick start which saw them race into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead after just 13 minutes.
It wasn't all good news though for Lixnaw at that juncture though as they saw Maurice Corridan stretchered off the pitch with a suspected broken leg.
Powered forward by dual star Eamon Fitzmaurice at midfield and always threatening up front via the pace and skill of fellow county footballer Paul Galvin, Lixnaw continued on the forefoot.
Abbeydorney held firm though and points from Ivan McCarthy and Ian Maunsell helped cut Lixnaw's lead to three points, 0-7 to 0-4, by half-time.
Lixnaw went up several gears on the restart and it wasn't long before the winners-elect leaped into an eight point lead with fine points from Galvin and Johnny Flaherty.
Abbeydorney tried hard to get on terms but there was no way back as Lixnaw comfortably consolidated their long-time advantage.
