Ashbourne Cup champions UCD take six College All-Star awards
February 20, 2007
There was more glory for the victorious UCD Ashbourne Cup Camogie team as six of their side were named in the College All-Stars 15 for 2007.
The Belfield side, under the tutelage of new Dublin Camogie boss Dave Kennedy, won the famous cup on Sunday following a 2-10 to 1-04 victory over UCC in Galway. UCD's win was based on a watertight defence and this was reflected in the All-Star team.
The All-Star goalkeeper was UCD's Mags Darcy, while the full back line was made up of two of her team mates, Clodagh Flanaghan and Mairead Luttrell alongside UCC's Jennifer Browne.
Mary Leacy from UCD took her place in the half-back line along with UCC's Catriona Foley and Fionnuala Carr from UUJ.
The midfield was another UCD affair with Cork All-Ireland winner Rena Buckley and Kilkenny star Julianne Woodcock filling the two centre field berths.
The half-forward line was made up of NUIG's Claire McMahon, CIT's Brenda Haney and Waterford inter-county player Aine Lynn from UL.
UCD completed their presence in the team with Susie O'Connell's appearance in the full-forward line. Alongside her is WIT's Ursula Jacob and Maria O'Connor, who was a member of the Garda College team that won their first ever Ashbourne Shield with a victory over UUJ on Sunday.
