Waterford Crystal Cup: Deise too strong for youthful Cork
February 06, 2011
Waterford's greater experience proved decisive as they saw off a youthful Cork side to retain the Waterford Crystal Cup at Pairc Ui Rinn yesterday.
Waterford 0-21
Cork 0-16
Free-taker Richie Foley accounted for almost half of Waterford's tally against a Cork team whose star performer was teenager Conor Lehane, who hit 0-7 from play. Favoured by the wind, the home side started brightly, but after Waterford took the lead in the 15th minute, they never looked like losing.
With Shane O'Sullivan and Stephen Molumphy dominating at midfield, they took a 0-9 to 0-6 lead into the break and the accuracy of Foley from placed balls saw them run out five-point winners in the end.
