Cavan Gaels boss Malachy O'Rourke was full of praise for county star Seanie Johnston after his six-point haul helped the town side to a 0-15 to 0-11 victory over Gowna in the Cavan SFC decider. "Seanie is a quality player and you want your quality players to come up trumps when the game is in the melting pot, and not when you're seven or eight points up," said O'Rourke of Johnston, whose future with Cavan was cast into doubt after he left for the US in the middle of this year's championship campaign. "When Gowna brought it back to two points, Seanie got a couple of great scores, and I don't think he missed a few all day. Gowna rallied well in the second half, but we eventually came to terms with their use of a player sweeping up around the middle of the field. Gowna manager Michael O'Rourke, who managed Longford in the late 1990s, was left to rue the loss of former All-Star Dermot McCabe with an ankle injury at the end of the first quarter.
