Narrow defeat for St. Pat's in Leinster Colleges SFC semi-final
February 14, 2006
St. Pat's College, Cavan interest in this season's Leinster Colleges SFC ended on Saturday 11th February at O'Molore Park, Portlaoise when they were narrowly defeated by Good Counsel (Wexford) on a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-6.
The Cavan colleges had the better of the exchanges in the opening half and went in at the 'break' ahead by two points 1-5 to 1-3 after having the wind at their backs.
The Wexford college upped their performance overall from the start of the second-half and with the game entering its final quarter they were ahead by five points.
Then the Good Counsel side lost defender Ray Coady when he was given a straight red card. Despite this handicap the Wexford college prevailed, despite the late late show by a gallant St. Pat's side, which recorded 1-1 in the final minutes. However, time ran out for the Cavan college as the Good Counsel side booked their final place. A disappointing end to the season for the Cavan side who promised so much in earlier games in the competition but failed on this occasion to produce their best form.
