Former Cavan footballer Anthony Gaynor has been named as the player at the centre of a biting controversy in the county.

Gaynor, who was a regular on the Cavan team in the middle of the last decade, has been identified by the Irish Independent as the player who is alleged to have bitten opponent Simon Cadden on the ear during a club league game between Ballinagh and Ramor United last month.

A proposed 20-week ban for the Ballinagh player was issued earlier this week by the Cavan CCC, which he is understood to have accepted. Gaynor's case was heard under a rule which covers offences such as kicking, stamping and headbutting.

Former county U21 Cadden is still undergoing treatment for his injury.
