County Wicklow Under 12'A' Camogie Championship Final
August 18, 2008
This final was contested by Ballinacor and Knockananna. Coming into this match, Knockananna had impressed all through the League while Ballinacor, a very young team with many players from their victorious U10 winning team, had arrived via a semi-final walk-over.
As Referee Con O Ceadaigh from Kilcoole got the game underway at noon on Sunday in the County grounds at Aughrim, it soon bcame clear that Knockananna would not get past Ballinacor without a fight.
This Knockananna side is exceptionally strong for this age group and with highly talented players around the middle of the field in Captain Lorna Mallick, Rachel Byrne and Ciara Byrne, they are a formidable opposition. Ballinacor faced the job ahead of them as all Ballinacor teams do - they fought all the way and never gave up.
Half time score was Knockananna 3-3, Ballinacor 0-0. Macayla Murphy also played well in the Knockananna defence. Defending well for Ballinacor were Goalkeeper Aoife Toomey and full back Dara Byrne. Also playing her heart out was Captain Aoife Clarke mid-field.
Fighting hard for all their scores, Knockananna added on 4-3 in the second half before Lorna Mallick accepted the Championship Cup.
