The National Camogie League Div 4 Cup in safe hands at the first ever Meath Camogie Summer Camps
Meath Camogie during the past two weeks ran for the first time every in Meath two Camogie Summer Camps. The first one was held in Kilmessan from the 5th - the 8th August 2008 and the second was held in Donaghmore/Ashbounre. Each proved to be very successful with almost 100 children taking part between both camps and they girls enjoyed the opportunity to improve their skills in camogie. Both camps were thoroughly enjoyed by all who took part. The Meath County Teams success over the past two years and with the win of the National League Div 4 Trophy, while also reaching an All Ireland Final in 2 weeks time has helped enourmasly to generated a huge amount of interest in camogie in Meath among the younger and not so young generation. Long may it continue in the Meath Camogie !!! Meath Manager John Davis & members of the Meath County camogie team attended both camps where they showed off some of their skills and answered some questions from the girls at the Camp. The Meath under 16 Team were invited to take part in the Connaught Camogie Blitz which was held in Roscommon today Sunday 17th August 2008. Meath were drawn against Roscommon in their first game. The format of the games was 15 minutes each half with full pitch. Meath played very well against Roscommon but could not break down their defense with only scoring 1 goal in the first half , with both Adrienne McCann & Lauren McCann scoring Meaths two goals. It was Roscommon who came out stronger with a win on the score line of Meath 2-0 Roscommon 1-5 . Next up was Mayo, after a break of half hour . Meath certainly made amends in this game and all girls rallied with some fine performance in Katie King, Kristina Troy & Aine Whelan. Give Meath a win on the score line of Meath 5-5 Mayo 0-1. Meath went on to meet Roscommon in the Final. With Roscommon already after beating Meath in their first game, Meath had nothing to lose but to give it their all, at centre field Jane Martin and Aisling Mcloughlin impressed while Sussie Gartland Caoimhe McDermott & Orla McDonnell also helped out at vital stages throughout . the half time score was Meath 1-3 Roscommon 1-0 . on the resumption it was they 2 quick goals by Kristina Troy that changed the game for Meath and helped by Aoife McCormack and goalie Niamh Carroll Meath went on to win comfortably on the final score line of Meath 5-3 Roscommon 1-1.
