County Wicklow Under 16 'A' Camogie Championship Final 2008 - played in Aughrim County Grounds on Wednesday July 30th 2008. Full-time score: Glenealy 11-9 Kiltegan 0-2 Glenealy dominated this game from the throw-in and displayed superiority in all areas of the field. Although a much depleted Kiltegan side battled gamely from start to finish, they could never match Glenealy's power and all round talent which has marked them out as likely winners since the early days of this Championship. With the mid-field trio of Lottie Cullen, Laura Manley and Kerrie O'Neill in control and accounting for 3-7 of the total, any opposition was going to have a difficult task on their hands. Niamh O'Brien, at centre-forward rattled the net a very impressive 7 times, while April Dickenson scored the other 2 points. Aishlng Byrne in the Kiltegan goal fought valiantly in the face of the Glenealy onslaught and was best assisted by Michelle Farrell who scored the 2 points, Andrea Byrne and Shauna O'Farrell. Avondale 28.7.08 This year's Under 14 championship was wide open from the start of the season but when the dust settled, it was Glenealy v. Avondale in the Final which was played in Avoca on Monday 28th July. Avondale had to line out without the injured Lorraine Doyle who has been their most influential player for the past few seasons. This was most unfortunate for Avondale, but on Monday evening, they came up against a Glenealy side who had only one thought on their minds from the start of the game - winning the title. This Glenealy side delivered a stunning performance to take the cup convincingly. They opened the scoring with Thomasina Dickenson (2-0), Danielle Doyle (1-1) and April Dickenson (3-1) in the first half. The second half saw further scores from Lottie Cullen (2-0), April Dickenson (0-2), Sophia Kavanagh (1-0) and Niamh O'Donoghue (0-2). All the Avondale defenders were kept busy but working especially hard was Karina Nolan at full-back and Amy Manley at centre-back. Despite the efforts of Shannon Kearns and Emma Townsend for Avondale, Glenealy were deserving winners on a scoreline of 9-6 to 0-0. Congratulations to Glenealy who were most impressive on the night and to Avondale who fought to the end. Captain Stacey O'Neill received the Cup from County Chairman, Dave Murray. Also playing for Glenealy were: Amy Doyle, Shauna Marah, Charmaine Higgins, Tara Quinn, Orlaith O'Donoghue and Shauna Dickenson. County Wicklow Under14'B'Camogie Championship Final 2008 Kilcoole v. Aughrim This Final was played in Avoca on Monday July 28th. It proved to be most exciting game for the fans. Kilcoole went into the lead mid-way through the first half but Aughrim would not let them pull away. Tenacious play from Aine 9 (0-1) at mid-field and Amanda Bolger( 1-2) led the Aughrim fight. Kilcoole's midfielders Claire Foley, Erin Horan( I-0) and Aisling McCabe( 1-3) proved to be just too much for Aughrim- there was always one of them in their way! Shannon O'Toole was playing well for Aughrim and it was well into the second half before Kilcoole pulled away and began to look like Champions. Caressa O'Toole at centre forward was very influential as she contributed to the build up with some spectacular catches.Katie Honan came on as a sub and immediately caused havoc in the Aughrim defence with her 'never say die' approach which resulted in the goal which put Kilcoole on the way to victory .Mairead Grennan, Katie Merriman and Sarah Burke were others to play well in what was a great all round team performance from Kilcoole. Captain Sarah Burke accepted the Championship Cup from Co Chairman Dave Murray to great applause. This is Kilcoole's first Juvenile Championship success since 1997!! This group of players were Runners-up in U12 and U14 Championships on numerous occasions.
