January 22, 2008
The Camogie Association has announced that the junior and senior Gala All-Ireland Finals, will take place in Croke Park on the 14th of September, along with the U-21Hurling All-Ireland Final.
This will be the second year that the three games will have been paired together and the third year that the U-21 Final has been played before the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Final. The triple header was a huge success last year attracting a crowd of over 35,000 to Croke Park.
The record crowd witnessed Wexford winning their first senior Camogie title in 32 years, while Derry took the junior crown and Galway won the U-21 Hurling Final.
Liz Howard, President of the Camogie Association is delighted to have camogie and hurling taking place in Croke Park. "We in camogie have been in discussion with the GAA through Liaison Officer and Leinster Chairperson Liam O'Neill regarding the continuation of the playing of the Gala All Ireland Junior and Senior Finals with the U21 Hurling final in Croke Park. I welcome the decision by the GAA Management Committee to rubber stamp this for 2008. Combining camogie and hurling finals in Croke Park brings together the hurling family."
