Clontibret Camogie News

May 01, 2012
Well after all the drama of last week it's time to move forward and get back down to playing the game!

The seniors, despite being quite depleted, played Granemore in the Armagh League, Premier Division, on Friday evening. This was a good workout - especially as Clontibret finished the match with 12 players on the full sized pitch, due to two further casualties having to be called ashore (Shauna McElvaney and Nicola Morgan), so there was no hiding! The good news is that in the relative scheme of things Nicola and Shauna's injuries were mere scrapes and both players will be back in action this week!!

Marie, Aisling and Aideen lined out with the county team on Sunday against Cavan. Unfortunately the traffic was pretty much one-way for most of the game so a lot of hard work will have to be done between now and the Armagh game in a fortnight. Hopefully too our representation at county level will improve as training gets underway in earnest.

Our U-12 players had their first taste of 'real camogie' on Saturday morning when they travelled to Crossmaglen to participate in a pre-season blitz. The girls played Camlough, Killeavy, Cullyhanna and Crossmaglen before adjourning for very welcome refreshments out of the Artic wind! This was a great learning experience for the girls and hopefully they will do it all again this Saturday in Culloville at 11pm. Many thanks to the parents for their assistance and providing transport last week. Hopefully the same spirit of generosity will prevail again this week!

Tomorrow (Wed) our U-16 team travels to Philipstown, Louth, for what promises to be a tough encounter against St. Kevins in the Louth League. Bus leaves the Community Centre at 6.15 sharp and players are asked to have their €2 bus fare!

On Monday (Bank Holiday) our U-14 squad will make the same journey to face the U-14s from the same club and we wish the girls the very best. The following evening (Tues) they play Derrynoose at home in the Armagh U-14 League. Then on Wednesday, May 9th our U-16 team host Collon in the Louth League. On Thursday our seniors meet Castleblayney in the Monaghan League, also at home, while they then face Madden in the Armagh League, Premier Division, on Friday evening. This game scheduled for Madden. So don't say there aren't enough camogie matches this season!

Finally best wishes to Eleanor, who is recovering from surgery to her finger, to Demi and Ríoghnach who are both back at school - though not yet at camogie - Karen and Tara who are still hopping around on crutches and Mary Duffy who took a 'wee wobbler' at Irish dancing and is now Irish dancing on one leg! Things can only get better girls!!!
