Laragh V Drumgoon
3G Breffni Park was host to the Junior League final on Sunday last October 17th between Laragh and Drumgoon. Maggie Watters was referee for the match. It took both sides a while to settle into the match and Laragh sent several wide before Shannon O'Reilly scored a point after a great pass from Laragh midfielder and Captain Cáit Farrelly. Drumgoon's Laura Shalvey tried to respond but was pulled down by the Laragh backs to secure a free however Caroline Shalvey failed to convert the score and put it narrowly wide. On the puck out Carmel Mc Bride sent a long ball into Irene Mc Cabe on the goal mouth but she was quickly surrounded by Laragh backs and her shot on goal was deflected for a 45. Caroline Shalvey stepped up to the shot put it fell short and was well cleared by Laragh's on form back Nicola Collins. Minutes later Shannon O'Reilly for Laragh gave a lovely hand pass into full forward Paula Smith who cooly slotted the sliothar over the bar. Drumgoon missed a great chance minutes later when Angela Black sent a raspier of a shot into the Laragh goal but it was saved on the line by Laragh's goalkeeper Emer Brady. Laragh put on the pressure and moved further ahead when young Emma Denning found the back of the Drumgoon net and Jenny O'Rourke sent over a terrific point from midfield.
With the advantage of the breeze in the second half Eddie Brady's side started out with determination to close the gap. Pamela Mc Cabe and Emer O'Hea began to get on top midfield but efforts on goal from Emer O'Hea and Carmel Mc Bride were saved and Drumgoon just couldn't get on the scoreboard. Laragh added to their tally with a point from a free taken by Jenny O'Rourke. Drumgoon substitute Ashling Mc Dermott responded with a well taken point however Laragh completed their victory with a pass into the forward line from Shannon O'Reilly which Paula Smith connected on mid air to find the corner of the Drumgoon net.
