Comerford takes up the reins in Kildare
November 02, 2007
Former Kilkenny All-Ireland winning captain Andy Comerford was officially installed as the new Kildare hurling manager on Thursday night, November 1.
The O'Loughlin Gaels clubman, who has no previous inter-county management experience, succeeds Ben Dorney who stepped down in the wake of the Lilywhites' Christy Ring Cup final loss to Westmeath in August.
Comerford captained Kilkenny to an All-Ireland final victory over Clare in 2002 and also won All-Ireland medals in 2000 and 2003. His appointment means that the both Kildare football and hurling teams will be managed by All-Ireland winning captains in 2008, with recently-installed football boss Kieran McGeeney having also skippered Armagh to national glory five years ago.
