NUI Galway into quarter-finals
February 15, 2007
A quick fire goal by man-of-the-match David Conway helped NUI Galway sweep to a convincing 1-11 to 1-7 win over Athlone IT in an exciting Sigerson Cup clash in Athlone.
The westerners maintained their momentum after Conway's strike with another three points helping the visitors stride into a six points half-time lead.
Athlone rallied for a brief time in the second period with James Coughlan points and when the same player rifled home a penalty after Raymond Galligan had been fouled in the area, it looked as if a winning surge was in the cooking.
However NUI Galway refused to panic and further scores from Conway and Westmeath countyman David Duffy helped ease their side into the last eight of the competition.
