McCrabbe fires Craobh to Dublin SHC win
October 01, 2006
Alan McCrabbe grabbed 1-6 as Craobh Chiarain came from behind to defeat Ballyboden St. Enda's by 2-10 to 2-8 in a thrilling Dublin SHC final at Parnell Park.
It was the Donnycarney men's fifth title success, while for opponents Ballyboden the search goes on for their first crown. The southside outfit looked set to end their long wait when Gary Maguire's 51st minute goal propelled them into a 2-7 to 1-7 lead.
But Craobh goaled from their next attack when McCrabbe's long-range free deceived everyone to end up in the net. The corner forward followed up with a free and Peter O'Boyle added another to make it 2-9 to 2-7 and Craobh held on to add this year's title to those won in 1971, '98, 2001 and 2003.
Craobh had led by 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval thanks to Stephen McDonnell's eighth minute goal. But with Dublin football star Conal Keaney making his mark after the break, 'Boden hit back with goals from Dave Sweeney and Maguire. However, it was Craobh who had the final say.
