Doyle wary of Donegal threat

May 31, 2006
Down forward Liam Doyle knows that the Mourne men will have to be at their best to defeat Donegal in the Ulster championship quarterfinal at Ballybofey on Sunday June 4th. Doyle and his teammates got over the first round for the first time in three years when they defeated Cavan in a lacklustre affair earlier in the month. Down will need to improve on that performance if that are to defeat Donegal, especially on their patch, but Doyle is confident that Paddy O'Rourke's side have the skill to do so. "Every man is going to have to up his performance by 40 or 50 per cent," said Doyle. "Donegal's not an easy team to beat, especially up in Ballybofey, where they gave us a hiding a few years back. "In championship football you have to be prepared to cover a lot of ground, especially off the ball, and our percentage of breaking ball against Cavan was not good enough. That's one thing we've had to work on."
