Armagh are through to the last four of the All-Ireland senior football championship for the first time since 2005 thanks to a 2-12 to 0-12 victory over 14-man Roscommon at Croke Park.

Barry McCambridge and Conor Turbitt struck the decisive goals for Kieran McGeeney’s men at headquarters, where their Connacht counterparts saw midfielder Ruaidhri Fallon dismissed on a second yellow card just before half-time.

The Ulster side had been 0-2 to 0-1 to the good when McCambridge broke through for his goal in the 19th minute ahead of a pair of Cox frees and a point from Niall Higgins leaving it at 1-3 to 0-4 come the interval.

The Rossies enjoyed an ideal start to the second-half that saw the scores of Eoin McCormack and Dylan Ruane bring them level two minutes in, but eventually Armagh got motoring again with three unanswered points via McCambridge, Oisin Conaty and Stefan Campbell.

Having fallen at this stage in 2022 and 2023, McGeeney’s charges weren’t going to be denied here and, after Conaty’s second point made it a three-point game again, Turbitt got in for his seventh goal in championship football which left Davy Burke’s side with a mountain to climb and they wouldn’t scale it as their opponents advanced to the semi-finals at their expense.
