Dublin came up with the goods in the second-half to down Carlow by 1-24 to 0-22 at Netwatch Cullen Park and claim their first victory in this year’s Leinster senior hurling championship.

Having drawn with Wexford last time out, Micheál Donoghue had a sluggish start to encounter and it saw them falling 0-5 to 0-1 behind after the opening 10 minutes before eventually going in at the break trailing by four (0-13 to 0-9).

The points of Paddy Doyle, Daire Gray and marksman Donal Burke would eventually draw the capital men level by the 44th minute and, despite them pushing two ahead, the frees of Marty Kavanagh restored parity for Carlow.

However, the hosts would be rocked when Fergal Whitely’s long range effort hit the back of their net on the hour mark.

From there, the capital men were able to see out the win with points from Chris Crummey, Eoghan O’Donnell (2) and Dara Purcell.
