Now 48 games unbeaten in the competition, Corofin continued their relentless march towards an eight successive Galway SFC title this evening.

The three-in-a-row All-Ireland champions ensured their progression to the quarter-finals by defeating An Cheathru Rua 0-16 to 0-6 at Pearse Stadium.

Ian Burke and Micheal Lundy notched 0-5 and 0-3 from play, respectively, for the holders over the hour. Paudi MacCormac was An Cheathru Rua's sole scorer in the first half as they trailed 0-8 to 0-2 at the break.

Corofin hit the net eleven times in their opening two outings of the campaign but the underdogs done well to snuff out the goal threat posed by Kevin O'Brien's well drilled outfit.

At the nearby Priarie, Damien Comer's Annaghdown beat Micheal Breathnach 1-15 to 1-11 to secure their senior status.
