Ballygunner 2-25
Lismore 1-10
Dessie Hutchinson struck 2-8 from play as Ballygunner cruised into an eighth consecutive Waterford senior hurling championship final this evening at the expense of Lismore.
In the end an 18-point gap separated the sides at Fraher Field, where the champions led by 2-13 to 1-6 at the half with Hutchinson the man wreaking the most havoc on Lismore’s defence.
It took all of six minutes for the lethal wing forward the fire in his first goal and he’d have the sliotar in the net again on 22 minutes to leave the scoreboard reading 2-9 to 1-4.
Paudie Prendergast’s goal was the highlight of a forgettable first-half for Lismore and they couldn’t stop leaking scores after the restart either, as Waterford star Pauric Mahony got his tally up to 0-12 for the winners.
Dan Shanahan would come off the bench in the 54th minute for the trailers, but by that stage the game was well and truly up as the Gunners stayed on course for a seventh consecutive championship crown in the Deise County.
