Mount Sion 3-18

De La Salle 2-17

Mount Sion survived the sending off of Austin Gleeson to edge out city neighbours De La Salle in today's Waterford SHC quarter-final at Walsh Park.

The former Hurler of the Year got his marching orders by referee Anthony Fitzgerald for a second yellow card offence near the end of the contest having had his straight red card received against Roanmore overturned. His four second half points from play were vital in the outcome while man-of-the-match Michael O'Neill finished with a personal tally of 0-11 for the winners.

At half time, De La Salle held a slender one point lead, 0-13 to 2-6, as goals from Stephen Roche and Alan Kirwan kept their near rivals in touch. Mount Sion sprung to life on the restart and reeled off 1-6 without reply to put themselves in a winning position. They will be joined in the last four by holders Ballygunner, Passage and Lismore, the latter defeated Abbeyside 2-22 to 3-11 in Dungarvan this evening. Maurice Shanahan was in fine form for Lismore scoring 1-11 and Oisin O'Gorman chipped in with 1-5.
