Dublin ace Paul Mannion sees plenty of similarities between Jim Gavin and new manager Dessie Farrell.

Farrell’s reign in the capital began with a defeat to Longford in the O’Byrne Cup last weekend and the former All-Ireland winner was quick to set his sights on his side’s National League opener against Kerry on Saturday week.

Speaking to GAA.ie on Farrell, Mannion says he’s looking forward to the new challenge of working under the Dubs’ new supremo.

"We met him before heading off on holiday to set goals for the year and expectations - what he expected from us and what we can expect from them," said the Kilmacud Crokes forward.

"It was a little introduction to his management philosophy and so forth. It wasn't new to all of us given the amount of players that have worked with him before.

"I think he is quite similar to Jim in many ways, he is not coming in to try to tear up the playbook or anything like that.

"He has no notions about himself, he is looking forward to working with us, observing how things have been done, and from there to add things to improve us."
