Jim Gavin was ‘honour and humbled’ to receive an Honorary Doctorate from DCU today.

Speaking at the ceremony, the six-time All-Ireland SFC winning Dublin manager remarked: “I am honoured, and I am humbled by this award and I accept it on behalf of the people who have shaped me and the teams, institutions and organisations that I have been privileged to represent and serve.”

Another honorary graduate from the Dublin college, Kilkenny legend Brian Cody was among the hundreds of guests and heard the Round Towers clubman pay tribute to his teachers in Clonburris NS in Clondalkin.

The All-Ireland SFC five-in-a-row winning manager also thanked his wife, Jennifer, for her unequivocal support, and their two children “who inspire me every day”.

DCU President Brian McCraith stated: “The award of an Honorary Doctorate by DCU is not only a recognition of excellence, it is also a public statement of the values and priorities that this University cherishes.

“Jim Gavin has not only excelled in his achievements, but he has also set standards of performance and values that make him an exemplary role model, especially for our young people.”
