Limerick SFC final: Corbett inspires Newcastle West

October 27, 2019

Limerick's Iain Corbett celebrates his goal against Limerick at Semple Stadium

Newcastle West 1-11

Oola 0-8

County star Iain Corbett scored 1-2 as Newcastle West claimed a first Fr Casey Cup in four years and their fourth in all with a decisive victory over Oola at the LIT Gaelic Grounds.

Corbett's goal from a 40th minute penalty killed off Oola's hopes of winning a first title in 40 years after the west Limerick side had taken a 0-9 to 0-2 lead into the break. Mike McMahon, Corbett, Eoin Hurley and Thomas Qulligan all scored as the winners eased into a 0-6 to 0-0 lead before Josh Ryan finally opened Oola's account from a 19th minute free.

Oola only scored once from play - in the 48th minute - with the remainder of their scores coming from Ryan frees. Corbett's penalty opened up an eight-point gap and, while three late Ryan frees narrowed the gap, the result was never in doubt as Newcastle West set up a Munster club SFC quarter-final meeting with Cork's Nemo Rangers on November 10.
