Louth SFC: Blues and Mairtins to meet again in final

September 23, 2019

Celebration time for Newtown Blues after they retained the Louth SFC title following a 1-11 to 1-10 final victory over Naomh Mairtin at the Gaelic Grounds.

Naomh Mairtin will meet holders Newtown Blues on October 13 in a repeat of last year's Louth SFC final after their six-point victory over Geraldines last Friday evening.

County star Sam Mulroy inspired the Monasterboice outfit to back-to-back Joe Ward Cup deciders by bagging a brace of second half goals which proved vital in a 2-10 to 0-10 success.

Meanwhile, the reigning champions needed a late Andy McDonnell goal and points from Ciaran Downey and substitute Hugh McGinn to get them over the line against Dreadnots in yesterday's semi-final.

The Blues trailed by three points with the game entering the closing stages but responded in impressive fashion to grind out a 1-9 to 0-11 win and keep their bid for a three-in-a-row of titles alive.
