Giles turns down chance to manage Wicklow

September 12, 2019

Trevor Giles is currently a selector with the Skryne senior football team.

Former Meath star Trevor Giles declined an opportunity to be interviewed for the vacant Wicklow senior manager’s post.

According to The Wicklow People, the 1996 and 1999 All-Ireland winner did not take up an invitation from Wicklow GAA to put his name in the hat to succeed John Evans at the Garden County helm.

The new manager will be announced next week and the newspaper lists former Louth and Cavan boss Val Andrews as the front runner, with former Dublin star Vinnie Murphy mentioned as another contender.

Wicklow’s Kevin O’Brien also declined to run for the post as did former Baltinglass manager Paul Garrigan. Gail Dunne and John Murphy withdrew from the race, meanwhile.
