Derry under-20 manager Mickey Donnelly believes that this weekend’s Ulster U20 final against Tyrone will be a close encounter.

The Oak Leaf County go into the match as defending champions, but Donnelly knows that if they are to retain their title, then they will have to produce an extraordinary performance.

Speaking to the Ulster Herald, Donnelly is hoping that some of his injured players prove their fitness ahead of Sunday.

“I think Sunday will be a mammoth battle and it would be great to have some of the injured lads available, but it will just come a little too soon for them,” said Donnelly.

“Nonetheless, it’s great to be in an Ulster final, where else do you want to be? The prospect of playing Tyrone in an Ulster final is very exciting.

“We’ve used a lot of our group, there’s 21 or 22 lads that have played already, and there will be other boys who will come in on Sunday and get an opportunity.”
