Mayo manager James Horan has given an update on his injured players and it’s mainly good news for the Connacht side.

This Sunday sees Mayo begin their provincial championship campaign with a clash against New York in the Big Apple.

Despite being understrength, Mayo are sure to have too much firepower for the Exiles as they look ahead to the remainder of the campaign.

Fionn McDonagh and Seamus O’Shea are very close to full fitness after being sidelined for long periods, while Tom Parsons is making good progress in his return from a serious knee injury.

Cillian O’Connor and Cian Hanley are unlikely to play against New York, while captain Diarmuid O’Connor looks set to miss out also.

Horan told the Western People that Parsons’ rehabilitation has been going well as he looks to get back on the pitch.

“Tom is making very good progress. He’s working daily on it. The physios working with him are happy with the progress,” said Horan.

“He hasn’t played any football as of yet. It’s one of these things where traditionally people would come back and do a bit of training or play a bit of football or whatever, but we want to make sure Tom is 100 per cent right before he takes on any training.”
