County star William O'Donoghue made his first appearance of the year as Michael Ryan's first Limerick SHC game in charge of Na Piarsaigh yielded a 22-point victory over South Liberties.

O'Donoghue had been sidelined through injury since captaining the Caherdavin outfit in last November's Munster club SHC final defeat to Ballygunner. His return comes on the same weekend as another Limerick ace, Paul Browne, made his comeback after a nine-month injury layoff.

Former Tipp boss Ryan couldn't have asked for an easier start to his tenure as the holders cruised to a 4-20 to 0-10 win.

Elsewhere, Patrickswell defeated last year's runners-up Doon by 1-13 to 0-10, while the meeting of Murroe-Boher and Garryspillane ended all-square, 0-18 to 2-12.
