Dempsey and Cooney to coach Westmeath underage teams

Luke Dempsey and Jack Cooney.

Westmeath underage football has received a double boost with the news that Luke Dempsey and Jack Cooney will be involved with the county U16 and U15 squads this year.

Both men have committed to both squads, despite being the current St Loman's and Westmeath senior managers. Dempsey's involvement with the U16s comes exactly 20 years after he managed the Lake County to All-Ireland U21 glory. He also guided Westmeath to an All-Ireland minor title in 1995. The other U16 mentors are Ken McNevin and David Scahill.

Cooney will coach the U15s along with David Molloy and Emmet Heavin. His son Brian is expected to be a key player for the U15s after achieving a remarkable feat last year when he won his fourth Westmeath Feile Peil na nOg medal in-a-row with Coralstown/Kinnegad.
