Mickey Harte admitted that Killian Clarke's dismissal early in the second half paved the way for a comfortable Tyrone victory over Cavan on Saturday night.

The Red Hands were leading by 0-8 to 0-4 when the midfielder received a second yellow card for a high tackle on Kieran McGeary just two minutes into the second half. Tyrone pressed home their numerical advantage thereafter to run out 1-15 to 0-9 winners.

"It was a big loss to them. It wasn't just any player, it was Killian Clarke, one of their main players for them whether in defence or midfield and he is good going forward for them, so he was a huge loss for them," Harte told the Belfast Telegraph.

Tyrone's second win on the trot has boosted their Division 1 survival hopes, but Harte isn't taking anything for granted ahead of a trip to Croke Park to face Dublin on Saturday week.

"It is a tight division in the bottom half at the moment and they have changed over the last seven days, some teams have gone back a bit," he continued.

"Thankfully, we are on an upward curve at the minute. It isn't enough to bring us to safety so that we can say 'yes, we are a Division 1 team next year', so we have some more work to do to secure that place for ourselves."
