Paul Galvin has been elected president of the re-formed Kerrymen's Association in Mayo.

The former Footballer of the Year, who won two All-Ireland medals at the expense of the Westerners in 2004 and '06, has strong links with the county through his Mayo-born wife and Today FM radio presenter Louise Duffy.

Galvin was invited to get involved through Ballina resident Pat Dowling, who is chairman of the group and a former neighbour of the ex-Kerry star in Lixnaw.

"Paul would be in Mayo quite a bit and he said he was very happy to get involved and help us in any way he can," Dowling told the Western People.

The aim of the Association is to stregthen the link with Kerry, to meet regularly in a social setting and to support the Kerry football team by organising supporters' buses to matches.
