Derry defeated Down in the opening round of the Allianz HL Division 2B in Newry this evening.
The Oak Leafers claimed the spoils on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-14.
The first-half finished with the sides tied on 0-8 apiece but Alan Grant scored the only goal of the game in the 58th minute and the Oak Leafers went on to claim maximum points.
The Mourne men’s chances wasn’t helped by the 45th minute dismissal of corner-back Mark Patterson for a second yellow card offence.
