O'Rourke braced for Kerry backlash

Monaghan manager Malachy O'Rourke ahead of his team's Round 4 qualifier clash with Laois

Monaghan manager Malachy O'Rourke expects Kerry to come to Clones on Sunday with all guns blazing.

The Kingdom are fighting for their championship lives after losing their Super 8s opener to Galway last Sunday and O'Rourke is expecting a "massive backlash" from them.

"They had an off-day, but we will see a very different Kerry come Sunday," he told the Irish Daily Star.

"Normally you would be coming in under the radar against Kerry and trying to catch them on the hop, but the flak they have taken in the last week means that advantage has been taken away from us.

"They will be coming up to show the leadership qualities that have been questioned and we are expecting a massive backlash. I read Darragh O Se saying that they need to stand up and be men but to me, you don't win the titles they have won at all age groups without serious leaders and seriously battle-hardened players.

"Who can argue with their tradition and quality. Kerry is a proud footballing county and they'll be coming up to showcase all the talent they have and we just have to be ready for that."
