McGrath to take 'a bit of time' to look at his future as Wee County boss

Pete McGrath isn't going to rush into making a decision about his future as Louth manager following this evening's qualifier defeat at the hands of Leitrim.

The two-time All-Ireland winning Down manager replaced Colin Kelly at the helm of the Wee County last year but it's fair to say that things haven't worked out as well as he and his players would have liked.

They suffered relegation to Division 3 after failing to win a game in Division 2 while Carlow sent them packing from the Leinster SFC.

A round one qualifier win away to London proved to be as good as it got for McGrath and Louth in 2018.

"It's early but I will take some time out to consider," the Mourne County native informed RTÉ Sport following this evening's 10-point defeat.

"I'm a year in Louth I've had some time to look around and see what the attitudes are and what the players are like.

"We had difficulties, where a lot of players left the squad, we had basically a panel of 24 and that is disappointing, those who stayed and committed were very committed and I have nothing but respect for them.

"As for my own future I will take a bit of time to look at it."
