Liam Irwin admits it would be strange to tog out against Mayo for a place in this year's Connacht SFC final.

The 23-year-old from Breaffy is part of the London squad this year and will find himself coming up against his native county in Castlebar on June 3rd if the Exiles overcome Sligo and Stephen Rochford's men get the better of Galway. A minor and U21 All-Ireland winner with Mayo, he says such a scenario would cause mixed emotions:

"I'm trying not to think about it too much, but it's hard not to," he told The Mayo News. "It would be strange and, obviously, Mayo is where I'm from, so to play against them would be bittersweet.

"But it would be nice to play, and to play as well as I can against a team that I would have liked to be playing with this year. Definitely, I suppose you have to prove a point as well.

"It would be nice for my family too who are all from Mayo. They would probably prefer I was back in Ireland. So it'll be strange if it does happen, but the Sligo game is obviously the main priority at the minute."
