There was an overwhelming reaction on social media to last night's airing of 'Micko', which chronicles the remarkable playing and managerial career of Kerry legend Mick O'Dwyer.
GAA fans across the country tuned into RTÉ One to watch the excellent Loosehorse Television documentary about the 82-year-old Kerry great and the tributes were flowing in on Twitter:
I love Kerry football because of the likes of Micko. Epitomises everything I love about it. He breathes it. I'd listen to him all day. Would have loved to have played under under him. And one of the finest rogues we ever produced!!! #thegreatest

The #MICKO doc airs on @RTEOne after the 9 News. It's a great watch. Narrated entirely by the man himself, it's a lesson in GAA, Irish history, O'Dwyer himself, and his love of life and the game that made him. RTE ONE 9.35pm

These Kerry boys of the 70s make the Dubs of today look like a Not For Profit organisation... between Bendix Washing machines, milk ads, ropey Adidas trackies & memorabilia.... #Micko

Was an starry eyed admirer of the great Kerry team in my boyhood. They were my heroes.

I never dreamed in later years I'd be on the same sideline, as manager of Laois, pitting my wits against the great Mick O'Dwyer, for his last match #Micko #Legend pic.twitter.com/YBccjBf6I2
What an incredible man. That was some show #Micko pic.twitter.com/msTUplsqWd

But Legends Never Die....
He gave Wicklow some of our greatest memories but the buzz and hype that he brought captured the hearts and minds of even those of us who never followed the GAA in Wicklow and that was something only he could do #Micko pic.twitter.com/9UdhzMHC1q
'The last team I managed was an u-14 team, I was 79 years of age.....and we won the league'. Brilliant documentary #Micko

My all time favourite event was one I shared with Micko. I was fairly star struck and after I did my talk he turned and said "there's great stuff in you!" Still my favourite compliment to this day! #Micko pic.twitter.com/Cn92YxIiLn

Mick O'Dwyer's grandfather swam 3 miles from Scariff Island to the mainland for help when his wife had difficulty giving birth, so ladies, don't settle. #Micko

He brought Kerry to the very top, brought Kildare from nowhere up to beat Kerry and brought Laois up from nowhere to beat Kildare. Finished up with a local u14 team, which won the league. He must of being some sort of genius. And about time RTE made something like that! #Micko
