Antrim midfielder Sean McVeigh and former star Kevin McGourty have had a public spat on Twitter following last Sunday's Ulster SFC defeat by Monaghan.

In his column for the County Antrim Post, former county player McGourty was scathing in his assessment of Antrim's display against Monaghan in Casement Park.

He wrote: "The new guard showed on Sunday they are spineless and ultimately leaderless, so who would you choose?"

McGourty revealed he twice made contact with manager Frank Dawson about returning to the intercounty fold and it is understood he was referencing those past players not included in the current squad.

Midfielder McVeigh took to Twitter to express his 'offence' at McGourty's observations: "I have to say I take some offence in @kevinmcgourty14 @AntrimPost article.

"To call me and the rest of the team spineless and not real men is a joke. It didn't go well for us but one thing is sure the majority of us are hurting more than the fans and those with a platform".

St Gall's clubman McGourty tried to offer an olive branch when replying: "@mcveigh_sean @AntrimPost Sean It was not meant as a personal attack sorry if it offend you but that's my opinion of what i saw on Sunday".
