Ulster club SFC: Clinical St Gall's down Tempo
November 05, 2012
St. Galls Sean Kelly is challenged by Tempo's PJ Rogers during the Ulster Club Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final at Brewster Park. INPHO
St Gall's (Antrim) 1-15
Tempo Maguires (Fermanagh) 0-9
St Gall's were somewhere close to their brilliant best yesterday afternoon as they inflicted a heavy defeat on Fermanagh champions Tempo in Enniskillen.
The fact that the Antrim champions took in a 1-12 to 0-3 half-time lead at Brewster Park says it all, but they had already been cruising to victory after 10 minutes when they led by 0-6 to 0-1 via the scores of Kevin Niblock, CJ McGourty, Mark Kelly, Sean Kelly and Terry O'Neill, and once county veteran goaled in the 25th minute the game was practically over as a contest.
The early stages of the second-half saw Tempo come into their most profitable spell of the game, with ace attacker Ciaran McElroy hitting 0-4 from play before two late frees from Daryl Keenan helped take some blemish off the score-line for the home side.
The 2010 All-Ireland champions will now meet Down winners Kilcoo in the semi-finals in two weeks' time.
