Darragh Sexton's first-minute penalty proved decisive as Cavan put Cadbury Ulster U21FC titles back-to-back following a hard-earned victory over Tyrone at Brewster Park last night.

In what was a repeat of last year's decider, Kevin Tierney also slotted five frees to help the Breffni Blues to their fourth provincial success in the grade. They were never headed after Chris Conroy was brought down for a penalty after just 15 seconds, and Sexton calmly converted the spot-kick.

Tyrone hit back with frees from Richard Donnelly and Darren McCurry before midfielder Harry Og Conlan levelled. However, three frees from full forward Tierney had Terry Hyland's charges 1-4 to 0-5 ahead at the break.

With Michael Brady and Jason McLoughlin excellent in defence and Packie Leddy dominant around the middle, the holders tightened their grip on proceedings after the restart. Two more Tierney frees and a fine Raymond Lynch effort from play had them five points clear for the first time.

Scores from Niall Sludden and Tommy Canavan narrowed the gap to three points, but the Red Hands couldn't get any closer as the Breffni County retained their title.
