Ben O'Connor retires from Cork duty

2004 All-Ireland winning Cork captain Ben O'Connor has called time on his inter county career.

In a statement Ork county board paid tribute to the services of O'Connor: "The Cork Senior Hurling Selection Committee this evening paid tribute to Ben for his immense contribution to Cork hurling since 1999.

"According to manager, Jimmy Barry-Murphy, "Ben has been an outstanding servant to Cork GAA, and while we are very disappointed to lose his services, we respect his decision and wish him well." 

The holder of three senior All-Ireland medals, Ben O'Connor also won a club All-Ireland with Newtownshandrum.

His twin brother Jerry announced his retirement from the inter county scene last October.
