Power spurs Kieran's to Leinster crown

March 03, 2011

St. Kierans star John Power celebrates scoring a goal for the Kilkenny minors in the 2010 All Ireland semi final.
John Power was the star turn as All-Ireland champions St Kieran's retained their Leinster Colleges Senior Hurling crown on Wednesday.

Power, the younger brother of Kilkenny senior ace Richie, helped himself to 2-6 as Kieran's claimed victory over Kilkenny rivals Castlecomer CS.

The Kilkenny dynasty was also in evidence with Diarmuid Cody, the son of Cats boss Brian, scoring his side's other goal at Nowlan Park.

The final scoreline may suggest a straightforward victory for the holders but they were pushed all the way by Castlecomer and only an unanswered burst of 2-1 in the final quarter smoothed their passage into the All-Ireland series.
