DUBLIN MAKE WELCOME RETURN TO LEINSTER HURLING FINAL
Dublin's return to the GAA Leinster senior hurling final has given next Sunday's final
in Croke Park a huge boost as Anthony Daly and his ambitious troops prepare to take
on the might of Kilkenny.
There's All-Ireland qualifier action next weekend too with Laois hosting Antrim in
O'Moore Park, Portlaoise on Saturday evening and Offaly playing Cork in Tullamore
at the same time.
The full weekend hurling action is as follows:
Saturday
GAA All-Ireland SH qualifiers (Phase One)
Offaly v Cork, Tullamore, 7.0pm
Laois v Antrim, Portlaoise, 7.0pm
Sunday
GAA Leinster SH final
Dublin v Kilkenny, Croke Park, 4.0pm
(Live on TV3)
DUBLIN v KILKENNY
They meet for the first time in the Leinster final since 1991 when Kilkenny won by 1-
13 to 1-11. Dublin also lost the 1990 Leinster final to Offaly by 1-19 to 2-11 leaving
them seeking their first provincial success since 1961 when they beat Wexford in the
final.
They face a huge challenge against Kilkenny who continue their pursuit of records
with relentless endeavour. They are seeking their 9th Leinster title of the decade, having
missed out only once, losing a semi-final to Wexford to 2004. Kilkenny have won ten
of the last eleven Leinster titles and haven't lost a final since 1997 when Wexford beat
them.

Dublin on the same scoreline (3-16 to 0-10) in 2003 and 2000.
Head to head in 2009
Kilkenny 6-12 Dublin 0-12 (January 19, Walsh Cup - Parnell Park)
Kilkenny 1-23 Dublin 3-15 (April 19, Nowlan Park - GAA Allianz NHL)
Next Sunday's clash will be the third between the counties this season with Kilkenny
having won the previous two. They had six goals to spare in a Walsh Cup clash in
January on a day when Richie Hogan (2-2), Michael Rice and Aidan Fogarty (1-1
each) did most damage for the winners.
It was much closer when the sides met again in the Allianz League in April when
Kilkenny edged home by two points in Nowlan Park. Dublin led by six points in the
first half but Kilkenny fought back to win narrowly in game where Henry Shefflin
scored 0-11 and Eoin Larkin 1-3 for the winners while David O'Callaghan scored 2-7
for Dublin.
Previous Leinster Title Wins
Kilkenny are seeking their 66th Leinster title success where Dublin are seeking their
24th. Kilkenny's dominance of Leinster is underlined by the fact that they have won the
title a total of ten occasions more often than all their rivals put together. Dublin are
second on the table with 23 titles, three more than Wexford, followed by Offaly on
nine and Laois on three.
