Marsden fails to have named cleared
November 13, 2003
Armagh forward Diarmuid Marsden has failed in his bid to have the red card he received during the All-Ireland football final rescinded.
Marsden was accompanied to Wednesday night's GAC hearing in Croke Park by Armagh manager Joe Kernan and members of the Armagh county board where they presented a strong case. However, following full consultation of all evidence available, including video footage of the incident, it was decided by the GAC that the penalty imposed must stand.
Marsden was controversially sent off by referee Brian White midway through the second half of the All-Ireland final after an altercation with Tyrone defender Philip Jordan, who appeared to charge into the Clan na Gael player.
The decision means that Marsden will now miss Armagh's opening round clash with Monaghan in next year's Ulster championship.
