The club sends its condolences to the Kearney family on the passing of club president Joe Kearney.
Joe was a great Gaa man who was well known and respected throughout the county. A duel player in his day Joe was centre half forward on the last Rathnew team to win a senior hurling championship in 1950 and was midfield on the first Wicklow team to win a Leinster championship beating Westmeath in the Leinster junior hurling championship final in 1954. He was unlucky not to win a senior football championship with Rathnew losing finals in 1953 and 1959. Joe was also a well respected referee in the 50's and 60's while having to cycle his bike to the games. Joe will be a big loss to the village. May he rest in peace.Tweet
